PERMISSIBLE CHROMATIC MOVE

Folk style allows chromatic steps in a very limited quantity only in the modes "Rast", "Shur" and "Segah".

Above-given chromatic moves in examples 203 and 204 refer to the mode "Shur". The tonic of the latter is the second degree of the tonic of the mode "Rast". It also refers to the mode "Segah", the tonic of which is the third degree of the tonic "Rast". In ascending direction chromatic scale is not applied. The degrees of the remaining modes do not allow chromatic changes.
