2. Composing melodies in the mode "Rast"

A. Symmetrical composition of phrases, sentences, and periods


Two symmetrically structured phrases - initial and response - form one sentence.
Initial phrase occupies the 1-st bar and ends in the beginning of the 2-nd bar (conclusion of the initial phrase in one and the same degree of the mode determines the sections of the mode "Rast").
Response phrase fills the 3-rd bar and ends in the beginning of the 4-th bar forming a half cadence.


Initial phrase is connected with a response phrase by linking phrase. The end of it coincides with the beginning of the response phrase.

 


In order to conclude a musical thought expressed in the first sentence, a response sentence with a full cadence in the tonic of the 8-th bar is required.
We suggest the following methods of composing response sentences:
1. Exact use of the 5-th and the 6-th bars in the melody of the initial phrases, the concluding phrase filling the 7-th bar ended in the beginning of the 8-th bar in the tonic:

3. Use of rhythmical structure of the linking phrase in the 5-th-6-th bars:
