PRINCIPLES OF COMPOSING MUSIC
IN AZERBAIJANI MODES IN FOLK STYLE
I. STRUCTURE OF PERFECT QUARTES
4. Use of rhythmical figures from the group of the first
sentence in the 5-th-6-th bars:
5. The response sentence should be repeated. In the course of repetition
variants are allowed. Repetition requires some kind of linking with
the beginning of the response sentence.
An example with the repetition of the variant:
6. Examples 88, 89, 90 refer to the first section of the
mode "Rast" called ''Maye-Rast". The peculiar feature
of this section is that the first phrase ends in the tonic in the beginning
of the 2-nd bar. Before the transition to the next section (for the
further development of the musical work) it is possible to compose one
more period in "Maye-Rast", and it is also possible to be
satisfied with one period and pass to the next section. Transitions
from one section to another are possible without their obligatory succession.
Violations of succession of sections are permitted, but it is recommended
to keep to the rules of succession from section to section during the
initial exercises while composing in modes.
The next section after "Maye-Rast" is "Husseini".
The peculiar feature of "Husseini" is that the first phrase
ends with the upper quarte of the tonic in the beginning of the 2-nd
bar. The response phrase may also end in the same quarte. In this case
it requires the variant of the first sentence with the third or tonic
quinte stop in the 4-th bar . Then follows one of the variants of the
response sentence borrowed from the section of "Maye-Rast".
